Tekst achterflap
Born in the same year and based in New York City, abstract expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler (1928–2011) and leading exponent of minimalism Donald Judd (1928–1994) pursued markedly different paths within the history of post-war abstraction while achieving major success in the United States. But this popularity was radically different in Europe and the Netherlands. Judd was extensively shown and collected from the beginning of the 1970s, while Frankenthaler’s work, and that of her female abstract expressionist peers, was almost completely ignored. This catalogue coincides with an exhibition contrasting the two seminal American artists at Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort.
